- International Aiki Peace Week
September 18-24, 2011
Following on the startling success of 2010's inaugural year (340 participating dojos from 43 countries), AE is aiming high and hoping to expand to 1,000 dojos in 2011. Invitation letters in multiple languages, press kit materials for gaining local media coverage, sample lesson plans, and a google map of all participating dojos can be found at www.aikipeaceweek.org

AE President Robert Kent, on campus at Williams College to teach Political Aikido - Persuasion, Inspiration, and Strategic Dominance, welcomed Ben Pincus Sensei, 5th Dan, of Aikido of Champlain Valley, Aimee Bel Sensei, of Zenshinkan Aikido, and AE Board Members Charles Colten Sensei and Bill Leicht Sensei for an all-day seminar emphasizing the generation of peaceful intent and results.

- Body, Heart, Mind; Somatics and Conflict Resolution - Paul
Linden, David Weinstock, and Bill Leicht at John Jay College of Criminal
Justice, CUNY

This course series consists of three classes: Body Awareness for
Conflict Resolution with Paul Linden, Transforming Conflict into Connection
and Healing with David Weinstock, and Peace Dojos for Nonviolence Development

Kids from all over the SF Bay area, parents, and teachers are welcome
to join us at Aikido of Berkeley for 6 classes, 5 instructors, 3 meals,
the chance for experienced students to try their hand at live-steel
tameshigiri, Ben & Jerry's Imagine Whirled Peace ice cream sundaes,
a samurai film, and a sleepover.

Proceeds benefit The
PeaceCamp Initiative an Aiki Extensions-sponsored scholarship
fund which brings Jewish and Palestinian martial arts youth to a
summer camp in the US to forge the bonds of trust and friendship
we need the future leaders to have. All attendees will also get a
complementary 1-year junior membership in Aiki Extensions
- Aikido for Collaborative Conflict Resolution - Teachers College,
Columbia University

This series of workshops will examine the overlap between aikido principles/practice
with more traditional conflict resolution language and methods. It
is a hands-on workshop, so participants should come prepared by wearing
loose, comfortable clothing. All are welcome to attend, and previous
athletic or martial arts experience is not necessary.

- United States tour in support of the Awassa Youth Campus &
Peace Dojo
Fall 2008
Tesfaye Tekelu, John McKay, and Meshu Tamrat, co-founders of Awassa
Youth Campus, are touring the United State to raise funds for and awareness
of their
excellent work with and for some of the most vulnerable children in
Awassa, Ethiopia. Please donate
to support the Awassa Peace Dojo through Aiki Extensions. Amazing
performances and training have already happened in or are scheduled

- U of Chicago to support mini-conference on Aikido in Higher
Education
November 14 & 15, 2008
A two-day conference on Aikido in Higher Education at the University
of Chicago has been funded with a grant from the Dean of the College.
The November conference will explore ways in which aikido practice
can be worked into academic courses in areas such as Business, Education,
Ethics, Philosophy, Rhetoric, and Sociology. Participants will be faculty
engaged in teaching such courses and graduate students doing research
on the subject. They include AE members from Furman University (David
Shaner), Lehigh University (Barry Kroll, Michael Riposa), Middlebury
College (Jonathan Miller-Lane), and Williams College (Robert Kent)
as well as grad students Tseday Alehegn (Columbia) and Andrew Humphreys
(Sussex, UK).

An experienced group of eleven Senseis, Aikidoists, and Educators from
around the world gathered to provide "how-to" resources and share best
practices to make children's classes more dynamic and effective.
- Bill Leicht presents Aiki Extensions programs at Shobu Aikido
September 26th - 28th, 2008
At Shobu Aikido of Vermont's Fall Keiko Bill Leicht presented Aiki Extensions
programs with DVDs, a talk, and discussion, expanding on his mini-presentations
given in July and August at Shobu Aikido of the Berkshires and at Shobu
Aikido of Boston's Opening Keiko. Bill addressed the question, "How
is AE realizing O' Sensei's vision for our 'Art of Peace'?"
- 4th International Aikido Summer Camp Training Across Borders
July 12th – 18th, 2008 Zurich
An Aikido exploration of relationships beyond culture, nationality and
religion.
Continuing the spirit of the “Training Across Borders” seminars. We
welcome people from Asia, Africa, the Middle East, the Americas and

- Donald Levine, viola-playing aikido sensei, and Masumi Per Rostad, aiki-playing viola master offered two workshops in VIOLA-DO, an innovative practice that links aikido ideas and movements with playing string instruments. Masumi is violist with the Pacifica String Quartet and instructor at the U of Illinois School of Music, Don is a 4th-degree black belt and President of Aiki Extensions.
The first workshop took place at the University of Illinois School of Music, Champaign-Urbana, on Friday, March 14, 7:30-9:00pm, and Saturday, March 15, 10:30am-12pm. The duo repeated the workshop at the Longy School of Music, Cambridge, MA on Friday, April 11, 3:00-5:00 pm.

- Shihan Ikeda offers Berkeley benefit seminar on Feb. 16, 2008

Aikido of Berkeley will host a benefit seminar by Shihan Hiroshi Ikeda on Saturday, February 16. During
noon break Don Levine will present a slide-illustrated talk about
Aiki Extensions' accomplishments and future plans.
